I’m having a heck of a time catching up on sleep for some reason! I’ve been sleeping at least 8 hours every night and I STILL have to take an hour nap during the day! Come on body, get it together.
Anywho, Sunday I ran the Rock n’ Roll Denver Half Marathon with my best girlfriends! If you have been following the blog, you might know that I didn’t really train for this half. I just wasn’t feeling running as of late. So, for the past 2 months the runs that I completed included:
- 8 mile run
- 9 mile birthday run w/ Shelby
- 4 mile run in Golden
- Some running/sprints at CrossFit. Never more than 1.5m per WOD
Sure, I planned to run a lot more than I did..But it didn’t end up happening. However, I’m happy to report that although this half was slooooow, I had a ton of fun! I loved the course and the miles really flew by, even though I was definitely undertrained and pretty slow compared to my last half where I finished in 2:14.
The night before started with a horrible night’s sleep and PEDIALITE shots! We took pedialite shots (about 8oz.) the night before my CrossFit competition and I’m hooked. YAY FOR HYDRATION.
The next morning I awoke at 4:45 and headed over to my friend’s house so that we could carpool downtown. My breakfast consisted of toast, Justin’s maple almond butter (the best stuff ever, seriously) and half a banana. My go-to breakfast for runs.
We arrived to the race about 1.5 hours early because we knew parking was going to be a DISASTER. We didn’t want to risk not being able to find a spot. Luckily, my friend’s mom’s work building was right near the start of the race so we got to hang out there until the start. It was a VIP experience if I’ve ever had one. Real toilets pre-race, say what?!
It was a chilly morning so all of us had on layers. I want to say it was around 40-50 degrees? I’m not too positive.
Pretty soon we were off! The first few miles we ran through downtown Denver– near Coors Field, the Convention Center, by Auraria Campus, etc. before making a B-line to Cheesman park.
I LOVED this race course. It was extremely beautiful and relatively flat (Except for the hill from hell at mile 4…). I ran with my friend Kirstin the majority of the race and we took a few walking breaks ( including a 15-minute wait for an outhouse because I thought I was going to pee my pants…) Woops!
I didn’t push it too hard this race, I knew going into it that I wasn’t going to PR. I just wanted to enjoy it and spend time with my best friends, regardless of the time.
Although my GPS was off ( I use my phone so it’s never super accurate), my time according to Endomondo was 2:43:31, including 15 min bathroom break. I’m very happy with my time and didn’t go into the race with any sort of goal other than to have fun and finish!
I’m happy to report that I have no blisters! AND I only chaffed a little bit.I think I’m more happy about this than anything, ha!
I chugged a chocolate milk on the car ride home (speaking of, vote for me for team REFUEL!) and spent the rest of the day napping, eating at Chili’s and taking an epsom salt bath. You can bet I’ll be using my 5 recovery tips this week 🙂
Up next? Lots of CrossFit training, I’ve got a competition in December! Also, I really want to go snowshoeing or cross country skiing… who’s in?
