Happy Monday morning you guys!
It was finally over 10 degrees here this weekend, so I ventured out for a long-er run on Saturday. A balmy 30 meant that I could get away wearing running capris & my bright pink Columbia base layer.
Columbia has a sweet technology called omni-heat. In a nutshell, their clothing contains tiny reflective dots on the inside that bounce your body heat back at you. I freakin’ love this base layer. The material is incredibly soft, breathable and comes in a bright pink color that just so happens to match my gray + pink running tights. Win, win.
Welp, the base layer did it’s a job a little too well this weekend as I was sweating up a storm during my run! Who knew one piece of clothing could keep ya so warm & toasty?
Back to the run — I felt fairly light on my feet and enjoyed my time outdoors. I’ve been primarily running on the treadmill and going to my CrossFit box, so I was happy to get outside regardless of whether I was feeling speedy or not.
I did a 5-mile loop around my neighborhood and ended up actually going quicker than I thought.
Here’s my splits:
Mile 1: 10:08
Mile 2: 9:08
Mile 3: 9:02
Mile 4: 13:20 — I ended up having to carefully walk up this slick, iced-over hill during this mile.
Mile 5: 9:45
I was pleasantly surprised! If you’ve followed this blog for a while, you know that I’m not the fastest runner. I’m really trying to get quicker this time around for the Nike Women’s Half in D.C!
To distract myself from feeling tired or out of breath during my runs, I always try to focus on the song that’s playing or having a running conversation in my head. My mind loves to wander!
Here’s a few of the tunes that I’ve just been LOVING lately:
As you can tell, my choice in music is all over the board! I love pretty much all types of music and am a huge fan of upbeat songs while working out.
I hope you dig these jams & they help to motivate you on your next run!
Questions for you:
- What is your favorite running song right now?
- Would you rather: Be super hot during your run or freezing cold?
