I attempted to blog on the bus earlier this week, but it ended up making me uber car sick. So, we’re going to have to find another solution!
I’ve really come to cherish my Saturday morning alone time. I love waking up early and hanging out on the couch, drinking coffee and doing blog-related things. It’s my ‘me’ time!
I told you guys a couple weeks back that I have been working with Smart Fit Chicks doing some ‘wellness’ coaching. I have about a week left and am super excited with all that I have learned the past few weeks. I plan on doing a wrap-up recap with what I’ve learned, but for now I’m going to dig a little bit deeper into what wellness coaching is and how it is working for me.
Wellness coaching isn’t just a cookie-cutter plan that Kellie and Chrissie hand out to clients. No, they carefully examine each part of their clients life and come up with a strategy for you to achieve overall wellness. And for the record, overall wellness is not just working out and eating right. NO, no, no.
We came up with 3 areas that I would like to focus on for the duration of my coaching: nutrition, strength and mental health. I went into the program wanting to be better versed in all areas for myself, and figured it would help me really find out who I was as a blogger and athlete.
With all the crazy blog-experts out there, you never really know who you can trust. Eat THIS, don’t eat that. Do this workout. Bla, bla bla. I finally decided to turn to two phD grads to help sort out this ‘healthy-living’ internet swamp that I find myself in.
Kellie + Chrissy had me track my food for 3 days before our initial meet up. This gave them a better look at my overall nutrition and macros. I wanted to learn how to eat better, and essentially FUEL myself better. Too many times did I feel weak during CrossFit and felt I wasn’t PRing my lifts as often as I should.
In fact, I hadn’t PRed a lift in ages.
Kellie + Chrissy decided that I need to up my protein and also add more vegetables into my diet. There was obviously a lot more detail that went into this, but I don’t want to share all the knitty gritty details of my coaching plan because hey — every person is different and Kellie + Chrissy need to look at your lifestyle before deciding what works and what doesn’t.
Since I’m not a huge meat eater, I’m trying to get protein through other ways. Mainly, greek yogurt, nut butter and [sometimes] hard boiled eggs.
Like I said, I wanted to focus on getting stronger. Thus, the girls set me up on a traditional strength training program. The tailored it to me and made it only 3 days per week, because I still wanted to do CrossFit 2 days per week. I just couldn’t give it up!
They had told me that it would be harder to do a traditional strength program without dedicating all days to it, but I knew that I still wanted to do CrossFit. So, I was fine with 3 days. So far I’ve been LOVING the mix-up of workouts. It’s always nice to change up CrossFit with traditional strength training moves.
OH. And guess what? I PR’ed my deadlift and strict press the other day. WHOOP WHOOP.
We also talked about managing stress and anxiety. I tend to get worked up over little things and it’s always nice to get an outsiders perspective on things when you are struggling to keep a calm mind.
Chrissy gave me two awesome techniques that have really helped me to be more conscious of my emotions and how quickly they can escalate. It’s helped me to be a little more level-headed in situations, because I’m emotional to the max and it can often cloud my judgement.
Like I said, every person is different and it’s so awesome that Kellie and Chrissy take the time to really sort through each of their clients lifestyle and coach them on how to be healthy, happy and the best version of themselves.
Both girls have their phD and experience in this field, which is extremely comforting when always immersed in a sea of internet fads telling you what and how to be happy and healthy.
If any of you are interested in their life coaching, PLEASE do not hesitate to reach out to me or them. I’d be happy to share more in detail my experience to you and answer any questions you may have!
