Yesterday morning I roped Paige into meeting me for a quick trail run before work. Since Paige lives in Longmont and I work in Boulder, the Boulder trails are a perfect place to meet up in the morning before we have to go be responsible [although I wish I could play on the trails all day!].
We met at 7am for a ~3 mile loop at South Mesa. Because neither of us really had a plan, we walked up to the map at the trail head and said “uhh, that looks like a loop. Let’s do that.”
So we started up. Holy smokes, the incline was relentless. For a little over a mile we climbed. And climbed. And climbed. It seemed like the trail was NEVER going to level out.
There were many walk/talk/catch our breath breaks, that consisted of picture taking and trying not to fall in the cracks of the washed out trails. The floods last year sure did a number on Boulder trails, and it’s sad to see them so beat up.
We finally made it to what seemed like that top, and decided to veer off on another trail, assuming that it would take us back down to the trail head. Apparently we were both in la-la-land because about another mile down we stopped and realized that we may have been a tiny bit lost.
After scrambling with our iPhones and trying to read an online trail map, we decided to take our chances and continue on the trail. 5 minutes later we were back at the trail head. WOOOOHOOO.
If I did math correctly we ran about 2.5 miles. I never really track my time on the trails, so this is purely a guess-tamate from looking at the trail map.
There’s nothing like starting the day off on the trails! It’s nice to earn a little vitamin D before playing on Twitter for living [JK. I do more than that. Kind of :P]
On a completely separate note, I’ve been scouring the interwebs for super simple dinners to make. I don’t get home until 7 most nights, and don’t feel like putting a whole lot of effort into a meal. So, if you have any ideas — I’d love to hear them.
If you’re curious, here’s what I’ve made the past two weeks.
- Enchilads with tomatillo sauce <— SO EASY + GOOD
- Baked Chimichangas
- Pesto Pasta
- Tortilla Soup
FYI — Leftovers don’t exist in our house. Ian eats enough for 4 people SO that usually means and entire casserole dish can be consumed in one dinner between the two of us.
I hope you guys have a fabulous weekend. I have plans to meet up with Heidi for some camping + race volunteering at the Tommyknockers Ultra! Should be a fun time.
