Hi guys! I’ve spent the last few days adventuring around New England — not showering, sleeping outside/living out of a van + running. Why, you ask? I was participating in Reach the Beach!
When New Balance contacted me and asked if I wanted to join their team of 12 bloggers for the Reach the Beach Relay, I was IN. I had such an awesome experience with the brand in Boulder during the Fresh Foam trail launch, that I knew I’d be in for a weekend of fun.
If you’re not familiar with Reach the Beach, it is a 200-mile relay race from Cannon Mountain, New Hampshire, down to Hampton Beach. 12 person teams. 6 to a van. Each person runs 3 legs of varying distance (unless you’re an ultra runner… you run 6. Eek.), which starts on Friday morning and ends on Saturday afternoon.
I flew into Boston on Wednesday night, and spent Thursday checking out their factory + seeing how they do what they do. Friday they shoved us all inside two vans and said “see you in 200 miles!” Saturday we reached the beach [208 miles later!], and here I am, writing this on Sunday — exhausted, hungry and so, so full of NB love.
I had never done a relay before, so I had no idea what I was getting myself into. I figured there would be little sleep, lots of stink as well as an awesome experience. I mean, when is the next time I would be able to say I ran 8.5 miles at 3am? (For the record, I am never doing that home).
The legs that I ran were 6.5 miles, 8.5 miles and 4.1 miles. For a total of 19.1 miles. Never in my life have I ran 19.1 miles (even if it was split into 36 hours), so I am extremely proud of myself and now may have the confidence to tackle longer-distanced races. Time will tell!
I’ve got running on the brain, so I’m currently in look up all the races mode. After running 19.1 miles, I feel like I can take on all the trails/distances/races in the world. Now if that’s not narcissistic, I don’t know what is. But, HEY, I’ll take it.
I’ll be giving you a full recap in the next few days, but for now I need to catch up on some sleep, take a second shower and Eat. All. The. Food.
