Hola! I hope your guys’ week is going swimmingly! It’s been a busy couple o’ weeks around here, but I can’t wait for a much needed trip to the lake this weekend with Ian and my family!
I’ve slowly been getting my trail legs back and have been enjoying morning runs that leave me with a clear head and big stupid grin when I get into the office. Yesterday morning, I headed to the Marshall Mesa trailhead around 7:00am only to find out it was closed 🙁
So, plan B commenced! I made a game time decision to solo hike Mt. Sanitas prior to heading into the office. It’s a bit of a longer trek than Marshall Mesa, but I already had my running clothes on so I’ll be damned if they didn’t get any use!!
For some reason, at the first sign of an earlier sunrise I feel the need to get out and play ASAP in the morning. I don’t usually run trails alone because in reality I’m a huge chicken when it comes to wild animals, but I sometimes just need to get out on the trail by my lonesome.
It was a sweaty 45 minutes to the summit where—no lie— I huffed and puffed the entire way up. The trail was fairly busy, but everyone is pretty friendly in Colorado and always offers a grin or “good morning.”
On the way back down a HUGE hawk (with a wing span as big as mine… not kidding) swooped down right in front of me and took off into the sky. It scared the pants off of me at first (who knew they could be so loud and fast?), but after the initial shock had worn off it was pretty cool to have seen. A sign of good things to come, I suppose!
There’s nothing quite like a solo hike by yourself – especially when it’s on a quiet and peaceful morning like yesterday. You really can’t beat fresh air and freedom 🙂
