Although I only live about ten minutes away, I sure miss living in Golden Colorado! I’ve spent many days in the cozy, little city and recommend it for a day trip for Coloradoans or out-of-towners heading up to the mountains for the weekend. I love my little city!
1. Hiking, biking and tubing — oh my!
There’s a plethora of trails to hike around here — all within a few minutes of downtown Golden. My personal favorites include: North Table Mountain, South Table Mountain, Lookout Mountain and Mt. Zion. Not to mention, you can bike most of these trails as well!
If you’re heading here in the summer, grab an old inner tube (or the insides of an old tire. yes, I’m serious. No, I’m not really sure what their real name is.) and tube down Clear Creek! Heads up — sometimes the water levels can get pretty high so just be sure to keep your eyes peeled for signs.
2. Eat at Bob’s Atomic Burgers
Greasy goodness with one killer view. This mom-and-pop burger joint hosts some awesome burgers with a ton of fixins’. My go-to? A grilled chicken burger with jalepenos and pepper jack, onion petals and a STRAWBERRY MILKSHAKE. <– to. die. for.
Did I mention that they have homemade sauces out for dipping? I’m a ranch girl, but their sauces make my mouth water.
3. Get Your Craft Beer On
Mountain Toad, Cannonball Creek, Barrels & Bottles and Golden City Brewery are just a few names that are regulars in our household. After all, there’s nothing like spending the day tubing through Clear Creek or hiking North Table followed by a Colorado craft brew, amiright?
4. Golden Farmers Market
Burgers and beer not your thing? Head on over to Clear Creek on Saturday mornings in the summer for a plethora of fresh produce, locally-made products and yummy, bubbly Kombucha!
5. Catch A Game
The Colorado School of Mines hosts a number of teams sure to satisfy any sports-enthusiast. Check out a football or soccer game in the fall, basketball in the winter or baseball in the spring. For the full schedule, click here.
