I’m probably in the minority here, but I absolutely adore mornings. There’s something about the stillness, sunrise and “new day” that makes me warm and fuzzy inside. It could be the coffee…but I’ll go with the former.
I’ve found that a stressful morning tends to lead to an overall stressful day — so I try to keep my morning routine as calm, positive and simple as possible.
Take Time To Just BE
The very first thing I do in the morning is start my coffee or tea, open the blinds and sit on the couch in silence. It’s actually very energizing to be in the moment when the rest of the world (and hopefully your mind) is quiet. I find that when I don’t take this time to gather my thoughts, I tend to feel super extremely anxious and it effects me later on in the day.
Breakfast is SO important. Yes, your mother was right. Think of your body as a car and food as gas. You need to put fuel into your car in order for it to drive. Your body is the same way. If you don’t fuel your body after it’s been running on empty for 8+ hours, you’ll eventually crash.
On days I don’t trail run in the morning, I start off by cooking a hearty breakfast — Usually stove-top oats with berries and Justin’s almond butter. MMM. On the other hand, sometimes I want something that’s quickly digested and easy for me to grab when I’m going trail running. That’s when I turn to store-bought or homemade smoothies, like Naked Juice’s Chia & Juice Smoothieshttp://www.nakedjuice.com/.
These smoothies contain some super-powers to keep you fueled — Omega 3’s, fiber, calcium, potassium and iron top the list. How’s that for some super fuel?
Get Outside // Move
After taking the time to “just be”, get outside for a walk, jog or exercise class. There’s nothing quite like the endorphin rush you get from mornings workouts. I tend to find that I think more clearly, feel energized and have a more positive attitude when I make the time to move or exercise before heading into the office.
Create a To-Do List
You had to have known this one was coming – right? I am the most organized person in all the land and find that writing out my daily tasks make them seem a lot more doable than when they are just running circles in my brain.
Lists are my best friend.
Everyone’s morning is going to be different, but I am a firm believer in sticking to a simple, streamlined routine that offers peace of mind + body. I sound so hippie it hurts. #CrunchyLife
P.S – Speaking of crunchy, I bought a Himalayan Salt Lamp and it’s the bomb. Who know if it actually releases ions or whatever, but it looks pretty!
